Lifetime licensing is how we price today. We are not going to promise it will always be offered — nobody can honestly promise that about anything. What we can promise is that a licence you buy stays a licence you own.

How Joinery makes money

Joinery is funded by business licences, the paid install, two paid plugins, and hosting referral fees. You pay us; that is the whole model. No ads, no data, no investors to satisfy.

We are telling you this because you should ask it of anyone holding your email — and because when the answer is “the product is free and we make money somehow,” the answer is you.

Is the free version limited?

No. Personal self-hosting gets the complete suite, permanently, with no seat cap and no expiry. The only things behind money are the optional install service, two optional plugins, and business use.

What counts as business use?

Running Joinery for a for-profit organisation’s operations. Individuals, households, students, schools and nonprofits are covered by the free licence. A freelancer using it for their own mail is personal use; a company running it for its staff is not.

Do I have to pay again for updates?

No. Lifetime means lifetime updates for the install you licensed. There is no annual maintenance fee waiting a year from now.

Are you going to change the licence later?

Free personal self-hosting is permanent and unconditional, and nothing you install today can be clawed back. Beyond that, the honest answer is that the protection you should rely on is structural, not contractual: the code is published, your data is in standard formats on your own disk, and your install does not need us to keep working.
